Kings Club – A New Era

Following a period of extensive research and planning, we are delighted to announce our exciting plans for the imminent extensive refurbishment of Kings Club.

Kings has played an important part in the lives of thousands of islanders since its beginnings as an archery club in 1857. It has been a centre of excellence for tennis and squash, provided indoor and outdoor swimming and recreation facilities for all the family, been a popular social venue and, in more recent times, become increasingly in demand for its gym and extensive range of studio classes for group exercise.

In order to maintain its reputation as a premier health club and to meet the sporting, fitness, and health and leisure demands of the island going forward, an investment in excess of £10 million is planned to transform Kings and provide world class standards with state of the art facilities. Beautifully designed and spacious changing rooms, completely revamped tennis courts, brand new gym equipment (with integrated touch screen technology for fingertip entertainment), a new spa, a second studio and a renovated clubroom are to name but a few of the exciting changes we will be implementing.

To make the planned refurbishment financially viable, we are promoting a modest, yet high end residential scheme. This £5 million investment will realise funds which will be reinvested back into the club refurbishment. Without this source of funding, the substantial Kings refurbishment works could not be financed.

Following a thorough investigation into the utilisation of the various areas of the club, and to reflect the needs of the majority of Kings’ members, some sacrifices have inevitably had to be made. We have managed to keep these to a minimum, and are pleased to advise that we will be retaining four tennis courts and one squash court, all of which will be extensively upgraded. The second phase of our tennis courts refurbishment will include, subject to Planning Consent, an indoor pavilion to bring two of the four courts undercover, allowing year round play in dry conditions.

Our phased approach to the refurbishment works will mean that the club will remain open for business throughout the construction programme and disruption will be kept to a minimum.

The brochure provides a more detailed insight into the club refurbishment plans, and you may comment and provide feedback by e-mailing thefuture@kings.gg.

Our continued investment into the health and fitness of the local community is of great importance to us, and I hope that you will be as excited about the future of the club as we are. This investment will ensure Kings’ continuance as a premier health club, of which its many members can be justly proud.

Kind regards
